Imagination has incredible power on many levels when used in a targeted way. In recent years, research has shown that mental images have a strong influence on body functions, emotions and learning processes. When children learn to use their imagination to harmonize their emotions, they also gain efficiency and self-confidence. They understand that they are not condemned to passively suffer what happens to them, but can instead become the directors of their own lives. The exercises below invite children to improve their perception of their body and teach them to draw resources from their imaginary world and to use specific mental images in order to regulate their emotions and reach their goals more easily. When children understand how imagination can influence their emotional world, sensations, and bodily functions, they can use mental images in a variety of situations, such as to improve their concentration, reduce pain, or for the realization of athletic or artistic feats (Revenstorf, 2015). Through access to their imagination and its targeted use, children can face everyday life with more confidence and competence.
